It’s been over a year since Universal Destinations & Experiences announced that it would plant a theme park in Frisco.
The Universal property is set to cater to families and will feature a hotel in addition to a park nestled within the $10 billion Fields development set to bring in millions of visitors each year.
A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows further work on the Universal Kids Resort between Preston Road and U.S. Highway 380 could begin as soon as July. The delivery of this work — not the completion and opening of the project itself — is listed for May 2026.
The original agreement with Frisco for financial incentives requires the project to open by June 2026.
The construction cost for both the hotel and theme park is listed at more than $152 million, the filing said. It involves a footprint of over 718,000 square feet, with architecture firm Gensler listed as the design firm.
Spread across 97 acres, the park will include four or five Universal-themed interactive experiences as well as a 300-room hotel in the Collin County city.
Universal, based in Orlando, Fla., is a division of entertainment giant NBCUniversal.
The Frisco Fields development will include as many as 14,000 homes and apartments plus commercial space. Developers Karahan Cos. and Hunt Realty are building the Fields community in partnership with investors Chief Partners and Crosstie Capital.
Frisco approved a special-use permit for the theme park, in addition to $12.7 million in economic incentives.
Balfour Beatty broke ground on the theme park late last year. The project is set to create more than 2,500 construction jobs.
