Fort Worth-raised country singer Cody Jinks heading to Dos Equis Pavilion

The Haltom High School grad’s new songs focus on growing, changing and sobriety.

Haltom High School grad Cody Jinks tops country charts and plays huge venues these days like Dos Equis Pavilion, but he never strays too far from his indie metal roots. Jinks — who started out in the Fort Worth thrash band Unchecked Aggression — puts a country spin on Faith No More’s deep cut ballad “Take This Bottle” on his new album, Change the Game. His duet partner is Pearl Aday, wife of Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and daughter of the late Dallas rock legend Meat Loaf.

“Bottle” and the new “Sober Thing” reflect Jinks’ decision to quit drinking in 2023. “A lot of stuff on the record was hard to put out, but it’s about growing and learning,” he told Rolling Stone. “Every record I write, it is my life. This one was just at a really vulnerable point.”

Since honing his honky-tonk sound at Adair’s in Deep Ellum, Jinks has kept Nashville at arm’s length. Releasing albums on his own label, Late August, he’s won Music Row’s Independent Artist of the Year award two years in a row.
