The Nodding Donkey, a college hangout with karaoke, drink specials and a surprisingly good bar-food menu, shuttered at the end of April. It was located on SMU Boulevard, on a strip of rotating bars and restaurants that now include Torchy's Tacos, Banh Shop and longtime SMU bar Barley House.

The Nodding Donkey's sibling bar, Nodding Donkey in Uptown, remains open. That bar made our list as one of the best sports bars in Dallas.

Restaurant owners posted this note on The Donk's website: "On behalf of the entire Nodding Donkey staff and ownership, we apologize to the loyal SMU location fans, and would like to buy you a drink at our Uptown bar. Just mention 'SMU 618' to your server or bartender and we'll hook you up."
