The Dream Cafe in Addison has closed

Brunch is still big business in the Dallas area, but Dream Cafe in Addison has served its last stack of pancakes. CultureMap reported that the Belt Line Road restaurant closed Aug. 12.

"We made it 15 years!" a sign on the door says. "We have had a good run, but sadly we have closed on our doors for the last time." The note then lists a few specific names ("Susan Steelhammer," and "shout out to Neil") before this quote: "The only time you should ever look back is to see how far you've come."

The Dream Cafes in Uptown Dallas and on Mockingbird Lane near Lakewood will remain open (though they are not jointly owned by the same people).

Owner Mary O'Brien tells CultureMap that "shopping centers have changed," especially the Village on the Parkway located at the southeast corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Belt Line Road. In the past several years, an AMC movie theater, a Whole Foods and other new restaurants and retail have moved in while others have moved out.

Notably, new brunch-obsessed restaurant Snooze an A.M. Eatery has opened at the same intersection and has seen lines out the door on some days.

And interestingly, when Dream Cafe opened at Village on the Parkway in the early 2000s, it was one of the businesses that helped the intersection get its mojo back. The last line in a 2002 story from the Dallas Morning News archives shows what Dream Cafe did more than a decade ago: "After the prolonged hibernation of Village on the Parkway, it's nice to see Dream Cafe contributing to the area's reawakening."
