Mansfield-set 'The Manns' and Marsai Martin of Plano win at 'NAACP Image Awards'

Power was a big winner at The NAACP Image Awards, held Monday night in Pasadena, Calif.

The Starz drama won outstanding TV drama to the surprise and delight of its creators and stars. Stars Omari Hardwick (outstanding actor in a drama series) and Naturi Naughton (outstanding supporting actress) also won.

The 49th annual awards show also had a local feel.

Plano's Marsai Martin of black-ish took home the award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. And Mansfield-set The Manns, which stars the family of actor David Mann and gospel superstar Tamela Mann, won the award for outstanding reality program/reality competition series.

Danny Glover received the President's Award. Singer Charlie Wilson won the Music Makes a Difference award. And the Memphis Sanitation "I Am A Man" Workers received the NAACP Vanguard Award in an earlier ceremony.

The NAACP Image Awards is a multicultural event that "celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film."

The awards show also honors those who promote social justice through creating. This year's show began with a special salute to the #TimesUp initiative, which addresses sexual harassment and abuse across all industries.

This was the first year that voting was open to the public.
