The shorthanded Mavericks, on the second night of a back-to-back, lost 126-120 to the Thunder. Doncic (36 points, 18 assists, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals) recorded his 59th career triple-double and tied Hall of Famer Larry Bird for the ninth-most in NBA history — one day after his daughter’s birth.

Feb. 10: Mavericks 146, Thunder 111

The new-look Mavericks roared out of their locker room and onto the court like a freshly repainted, souped-up sports car and almost immediately jumped to a 15-point lead. That was before the new guys (at the time), Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington, even checked into the game.

March 14: Thunder 126, Mavericks 119

Despite the injury absence of Doncic, this TNT-televised Mavericks-Thunder game in Paycom Center wasn’t low-scoring whatsoever, but Oklahoma City’s 126-119 victory over Dallas did have playoff-like intensity. And physicality.

April 14: Thunder 135, Mavericks 86

The NBA entered its regular season finales with a heightened level of intrigue with 15 out of 20 playoff seeds still undetermined. That mystery factor didn’t apply for the Mavericks, who’d already clinched the fifth seed, so their one-sided 135-86 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder was a game with little significance outside of the development of their young players.
