Breakfast and lunch spot Crossroads Diner will reopen in Dallas-Fort Worth

The COVID-19 pandemic killed Crossroads in 2020, but chef-owner Tom Fleming is back with more pancakes and sticky buns in 2024.

Crossroads Diner, a restaurant that sold pancakes and eggs for nearly a decade in Dallas, is expected to reopen in Plano in September 2024.

Tom Fleming, owner and head chef of Crossroads Diner, closed the restaurant 5 days before its 10th anniversary. “There’s not enough money coming through the door,” he said in November 2020. The restaurant from chef-owner Tom Fleming had been closed for four years. It was one of the 18% of Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants that didn’t survive the first year of the pandemic.

Fleming said in 2020, and again in an interview with The Dallas Morning News last week, that he planned on reopening Crossroads. It was just a matter of when and where.

He signed a lease at Heritage Creekside, the development at Plano Parkway and Alma Road in south Plano that includes a Flying Fish, Rodeo Goat and Pax & Beneficia coffee shop.

The restaurant will be “very similar” to the Crossroads from the past, the chef-owner said. Fleming plans to bring back his beloved frittata with house-made chorizo and Mozzarella Company goat cheese. Also on the menu are pancakes, eggs and grits. The sticky buns will return on weekends only.

During Fleming’s four years away from Crossroads, he was a restaurant consultant and a furniture maker.

“I’ve been in the restaurant business, but not where I need to be, which is at Crossroads Diner,” Fleming said.

“I just knew that I would reopen one day,” he said. “This is what I do: I’m a chef, I’m a restaurateur. All the other stuff is great and I enjoyed it. But I like to make people happy with my food.”

Crossroads Diner is expected to open at 645 Powell Lane, Plano, in September 2024.
